Following the success of previous years, the Broughton Community Choir and Ashton Sings Community Choir are once again joining together to run "Sea and Cake" sea shanty workshops over the summer.
We will run a series of evening workshops in July and August, in Broughton (Staffs) and Ashton Hayes. And will finish the project with a finale singing day, combining an afternoon workshop and a fun informal concert.
All events are standalone, so singers are welcome to come to any of the workshops that are convenient, and/or the finale event.
In addition, this year we are delighted to have been invited to perform at the Eccleshall Grand Singathon on Saturday October 5th (during the day) under our sea shanty choir name the "Fairweather Sailors".

Sat 5th October - performance at the Eccleshall Grand Singathon. Time to be confirmed, but between 11:30 and 4:30, Eccleshall Community Centre, Shaws Lane, ST21 6AU
Evening Workshops
Join us at our relaxed evening workshops learning to sing a selection of traditional shanties. Come to all sessions or just join us when you are free. No need to read music as all parts will be taught, but scores will be provided. All welcome! Sessions will run from 7:30-9:30pm, with a break in the middle for refreshments. Evening workshops are £4.50, and include homemade cake!
- The Ashton (Cheshire) workshops will take place at Ashton Village Hall, CH3 8AB
- The Broughton (Staffordshire) workshops will take place at Broughton Parish Room, ST21 6AB
Sea and Cake Singing Day
The project will finish with a singing day on Sunday 8th September.
It is an afternoon event, and will take the form of workshop sessions, followed be a short concert. In the workshop sessions we will look at the shanties that we are singing in the concert, and also learn new music for the day.
Material from the evening workshops will feed into this event, but all pieces will be taught so singers do not need to have been to any workshops to participate.

Guests are welcome to join us at 4:30pm for cake and to listen to the concert. The event will take place at the Broughton Parish Room, ST21 6AB. £8 for singers, £2.50 for audience members. The room will be open from 12 noon for singers who wish to bring a lunch beforehand. (Tea and coffee will be available).
