For the previous few years, the Broughton Community Choir and Ashton Sings have teamed up to bring you “Sea and Cake” sea shanty workshops over the summer months. Sadly this year, as with many other events, it is not possible to run physical sessions, so we are going to put together 2 virtual sea shanty performances instead.
We have chosen two contrasting shanties - Whip Jamboree
and Tom’s Gone to Hilo, and we will be asking people to produce a video of themselves singing their part. These videos will be combined to produce a video of a massed performance of the 2 pieces.
We will issue recordings of each of the parts. These will help you learn them and you can use the same recordings to sing along to when you make your video - then we will all be in time with each other! We will also issue a score for each piece for those who find it helpful.
In addition, Martin Jones will run one or two Zoom workshops (dates t.b.c.) to run through parts if that is helpful.
When we have all the videos, we will edit them together to produce our finished “performance” which we will issue with a Zoom “launch party”, provisionally in early September.
Watch this space for more details - the project resources and the full programme will be available by the end of July!
